The fourth NICE Coffee Break Workshop was held on 14 March 2023. Alexander Law, Director of Public Affairs at Michelin Development, presented “From Plant Closure to Opportunity: Examining Michelin’s Approach to Regional Regeneration”.

This workshop dives into Michelin’s pioneering approach to low-carbon regional regeneration following plant closures. Law will dissect successful projects like the Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc in Dundee and CleanTech in Hallstadt, Germany, uncovering how these initiatives transformed their particular industrial landscape into hubs for sustainable development, research, and economic growth.

The workshop explored:

  • Michelin’s innovative strategies for fostering low-carbon industries and green jobs.
  • Community-driven approaches to economic diversification and environmental sustainability.
  • The role of innovation and technology in accelerating the transition to a low-carbon future.
  • Actionable takeaways for successful community revitalisation efforts after plant closure.
